  7. First Lady Cocktail Series: April, Martha Jefferson

    April’s Featured First Lady Cocktail

Inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s Love for His Wife,

     Martha Jefferson

    Jefferson Reviver

Bulleit Rye |Cointreau | Sercial Madeira | Lemon Juice

Simple Syrup | Absinthe Rinse | Coupe | Flamed Rosemary Garnish

Come try the Jefferson Reviver at Quill

Four months after the birth of their last child, Martha Jefferson passed away. Thomas was said to have been inconsolable and was led from the room by his sister into his library, where he promptly fainted. He remained this way for so long they feared he would never revive. The cocktail is a play on a Corpse Reviver #2, with rye replacing the gin and Madeira replacing the Lillet Blanc. Wormwood (from the absinthe) and rosemary were both grown in the Jefferson's Monticello garden.

  8. Get This Guy on Your Radar

Get this Pup on Your Radar!

Monti here! Hope everyone is getting ready for peak bloom of the Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC and have made their reservations to come and visit me at The Jefferson this spring! I wanted to introduce you to yet another friend of mine that is looking for their furever home.

Radar came to PAW Rescue from a very bad hoarding situation in WV. So many dogs at once just swamped the local shelter, so an SOS went out to rescues and PAW responded; Radar was the obvious choice, with those enormous ears and short legs - you have to smile when you see him.

Despite his difficult beginnings, Radar is Mr Personality! He loves people of all ages, loves attention, and loves other dogs. (He may even be OK with cats as well). Radar greets everyone like a long-lost friend, will hop into your lap given the slightest invitation, and while there are people to meet and new things to explore, his tail never stops wagging.

Radar is such a super-social guy that we would love him to go to home where there is another friendly dog to play with or where he won't be completely alone for long hours.

If you are interested in meeting Radar, or for more information about him or any of the other wonderful PAW dogs, contact us at

Also, a reminder that my friends at The Jefferson are once again holding their annual PAW Prints at The Jefferson raffle and are currently selling tickets! They are $25 each and the drawing will be on Monday, April 25th at 6:00pm at The Jefferson and all ticket holders are invited to attend. Prizes include overnight stays at the Fairmont, the Mandarin Oriental, The Jefferson in both DC AND Richmond, VA, The Hay Adams, dinner at Westend Bistro in the Ritz Carlton and tickets to the Wolly Mammoth theatre!  To purchase tickets, just email and they’ll be able to help you out!

    Have a great weekend, everyone!
